It's Christmas, and Figgy Edmunds is celebrating by taking the festive special steam train from Swanage to Corfe Castle. When she bumps into her friends from the Lyme Regis Women's Swimming Club, there's a moment of awkwardness. But then they're all stumped when the train steams through Corfe Castle station before coming to a sudden halt a short distance along the line. An empty railway carriage is stranded on a bridge, blocking their way. No locomotive, no timetable, no reason for its being there. And only one passenger... a local property developer, left dead inside the abandoned carriage. Dorset Police's DCI Lesley Clarke and her team are close at hand, enjoying their Christmas dinner at a nearby pub.
